Has anyone stayed at the Hotel de France in Cannes. It seems to be close to the beaches and is air conditioned, but fairly reasonable. Is there something wrong with this hotel ?

We were planning on staying there on a summer trip to Cannes. In fact my heart was set on staying there. After a few research (here and on other travel boards), the general consensus was that although the pictures in the website is very nice, it is actually quite a distance to the beach and its location is on the other side of the boulevard (forgot the name but it is NOT the Blvd. Croisette) or main highway. In fact they said that you can hear highway noise from your room and if you choose a room facing the pool, it is the noise of the people in the pool that might bother you. Hence we chose another hotel.
