Has anyone stayed at the Goldener Stern in Lucerne?

Hotels in Lucerne are very expensive! Some are nearly $200 per night! Has anyone stayed at the Goldener Stern? It is more like $135 but I'm wondering about its quality. Can anyone help? Thanks

I stayed there, but it was 7 or 8 years ago, so this may not be too useful to you. It was not fancy but perfectly acceptable. I had a clean, small (single) room with a comfortable bed, and I remember the staff being nice. I'd stay there again.

Have you tried a search here? I have the Goldener Stern marked as a Fodors board recommendation in my SwissHotel book. Also have the Pickwick marked. Did not stay there but it certainly is in a better sightseeing area than Goldener Stern.

Have you found the Swiss Hotel site? www.swisshotels.ch ?

Yep...Luzern is full of expensive hotels. You might try The Rebstock. It is $200 in high season, but reasonable at other times. There are also some bed and breakfasts. Try www.rooms.ch and www.bnb.ch. If you are renting a car, you have a few more options. There are several farms that have rooms/apartments just outside the city. You wake up to amazing views and cow/sheep bells.
Good luck,
Jan

Like the earlier poster, I too stayed at the Goldener Stern about 7 years ago. But the rooms were decent, as was the breakfast, and it is centrally located. I would stay there again.
