I booked a room there for our trip in May. Hotel Muguet was already booked and the Grand Hotel des Balcons never replied to my emails. I don't see too many comments on this hotel, but the few on tripadvisor are positive. The hotel seems to be on a quiet street in St. Germain and it is very close to major sites including the D'Orsay. Pictures can be misleading, but the rooms look small but nice and tidy. If anyone has stayed there let me know or just wish me luck!

Message: hello - i failed to post this upon return, but my husband and i spent a lovely week in paris at the end of of september (this year, 2004) and we stayed at the hotel st. thomas d'aquin. It was my first time to paris, and we had a wonderful experience there - the staff was friendly enough and the decor was just right for us - we were trying to find something not terribly expensive but without the floral / chintz / (insert other bad decor trap here) that seems to befall many affordable hotels. It was even nicer than we had hoped, a great bargain - very intimate and cozy, but still modern and contemporary and very, very clean. rooms were on the small side as is to be expected in paris (we live in manhattan, so we had no problem with that!). bring your travel alarm clock - ours had none - and request a room on the street side, as they seem to be a bit brighter. we really loved this hotel - it was just lovely and i would recommend it to anyone - we are quite picky and i did tons of research to find this (champagne tastes on a beer budget, here). and of course, the location couldn't be beat - we walked everywhere, and it was right in the st. germain area on a cute little quiet street. all in all, feel confident in your choice, i think it is a lovely hotel and i am sure you will enjoy your time there as much as we did! we couldn't find much info before we went, but we were so happy that we took the chance - i think it is just a well-kept secret. In September 2003 my husband and I and another couple stayed at the St. Thomas D'Aquin in Paris. I have stayed in the area on 3 other occasions and for the money we really liked this hotel. Our rooms were street side with flowers at the window in a grilled flower box. The big french windows let in the sun in the afternoon. It was a small but very cheerful room. Had a very small bathroom, but clean and new. We would definitely return. Loved the location on narrow, quiet side street just off St. Germaine.

We chose not to have the hotel breakfast as the cafes in the area on St. Germaine have more atmosphere and people watching.

Thanks guys! And travelnut- I did search ST. Thomas D'Aquin and found the reviews, but I thought I would repost for people who hadn't already posted. Thanks eurogals! I also requested a non-smoking room, but I am not sure if they differentiate them.

ok, ilovetulips..! maybe it is a well-kept secret, I haven't seen any other posts - not since it's been refurbished. Go now while you can still get a room!

I will now pick on 'sol_veracruzano', really can't you look up the room price yourself? it wouldn't have taken any longer than posting here about it. The above post even gives you a website: www.venere.com
