Has anyone stayed at Hotel Flora in Venice?
 

I found what appears to be a quaint spot to rest our heads at night. I always like to know what other people think if they have been there. Has anyone stayed at the Hotel Flora? It is next door to the Palazzo Contarini Fasan. I have no idea if that's a good place to be located. Any info would help. Grazie

Stayed there several years ago and it is very well-located.

St Marks is a short walk as ae most of the other places you will want to visit. Our room was smallish but more than adequate. They served a nice breakfast as I recall.

I stayed there in 2003. It was very well located and the staff lovely and helpful. Our air conditioner didn't work well and they were never quite able to fix it, despite several efforts. We stayed only a few days, however and didn't request a room change. Haviing stayed in a lot of different hotels in Europe, I think I might look for something else if I were returning to Venice.

Stephh...why is that? I need details. I have a problem finding places and have been looking for so long. There is 5 in my family and most can't accommodate us. Any suggestions? I'd appreciate your help.

Andreadee...I mean only that I have stayed in more comfortable places in different European spots for the same money/stars etc. Perhaps I also unfairly compare it to the Europa and Regina in Venice, a 5 star in which I stayed in '01. For that trip I was with a tour that booked you in the smallest rooms of high end hotels. The Flora will be a fine place to stay, but my comment is that if I have the opportunity to go to Venice for a third visit, I will try another hotel. It has been many years since I did my research.

This is a June review I write about Hotel Flora in tripadvisor regarding my stay as a solo traveler in Venice last May:

I stayed at Hotel Flora last month for 10 days as a solo traveler, and the hotel and its staff helped make my trip something I will always fondly remember. My room, while small, was a perfect fit for me, and was, most importantly, very, very quiet. The staff was uniformly courteous and helpful, and the gentleman who orchestrated the charming breakfast room was an absolute gem, unfailingly cheerful and on the spot every time, often even before I asked for something. He remembered every morning that I wanted my cappuccino without their customary sprinkling of chocolate and would call out to have it ready even before I had fully entered the breakfast room. The breakfast was ample and appetizing, with croissants, fresh cut fruit, cereals, juices, everything you would want or need to begin your day. The location is ideal, tucked down an alleyway, just off a fashionable calle, across from the excellent (and highly recommended) La Caravella restaurant, and near enough to Piazza San Marco and its vaporetto stop without being too close to the mayhem of either one. If I should ever be lucky enough to return to Venice, I will return to Hotel Flora.

We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Flora. We like a small hotel and a quiet location;it's pretty interior courtyard offers quiet and respite from the busy city beyond.We had a large room on the top floor overlooking the courtyard. Breakfast was excelllent, served outdoors. It is conveniet to but away from the hussle and bussle of San Marco. We usually rent an apartment in Venice but if returning for only for a few days, we would happily return to Hotel Flora.The staff was very helpful too.

We stayed at the Flora several years ago in a room that we still laugh about. Our A/C also did not work, but the window opened directly onto the hotel's small garden so we were reluctant to open it. The bathroom was the smallest one we've seen on land, and the door to our room opened into the hallway because there was no space to open into the room. The snoring of the man in the next room was so loud I thought it was my husband snoring next to me. If I were to stay there again, I'd definitely upgrade to something much higher than a standard room, but that might put it out of my budget range. (I don't know their current rates.)

Anyway, in answer to your basic question, the hotel is in a good location, close to San Marco but several yards off one of the crowded/noisy streets. We also thought the staff were great and the breakfast good.

We've stayed at La Calcina a couple of times. In high, super-crowded season, I'd rather be there with a little more space to relax and breathe. It's not far from the Accademia, the Guggenheim, the Zattere stop and crossing to Giudecca.

We also stayed there many years ago and had a family room for four, 2 adults/2 kids, which was a nice size and had 1.5 bathrooms, if I recall, or the toilet was separate from the bath and sink. It looked out over to the backside ( some distance away) of a gorgeous mansion.

It has character, but I do remember that I was able to see into some other rooms in the hallway, and some people had complained to each other ( I overheard) of how small their rooms were. It seems their "family room" must be one of the much larger ones as we had no complaints at all.
