Has anyone stayed at Hotel Canada?
 

I am absolutely tired of reading hotel reviews at tripadvisor and venere, and hope someone can vouch for this hotel. Has anyone on Fodors mb stayed at the Hotel Canada? Is the area okay?

I have searched for mention of this hotel here, but there's not much about it. Most of the other budget hotels mentioned on this board (Panda, Julia, Kennedy, Des Artistes) are on upper floors of buildings with either a 1-person, temperamental lift, or none at all. Walking all day is going to take its toll on the sciatic one (me), so those are out. Is the Canada, too, on upper floors of a multipurpose "palazzo?"

kswl, I hadn't read that Hotel Julia had an inadequate lift. Where did you see that? I am planning on staying there. If that's the case, well it's a good thing I'm preparing myself for stairs!

You are going to have so many hills and stairs anyway - will a few flights at the end of the day make much difference?

At any rate, at the following page it says this about Hotel Canada:
How many floors are there in the building and do you have an elevator (lift) in the building?
The hotel has 5 floor and also an elevator.

A TripAdvisor review says this:
"There are five floors all accessible by stairs or a small lift."

I wouldn't count on the elevator actually starting on the ground floor and going to the top floor, though. I'd suggest getting information about the lift in writing from the hotel before you book, if this is important to you.

Very good advice. The temperamental lift is in Des Artistes, from what I gather on Tripadvisor. The hills and stairs during the day are what may make five flights at night virtually impossible for my poor knees. I'm worried enough about it to make this a salient feature of the hotel we choose.

There is availability at the Pantheon View B&B. Reviews are generally good, and they state unequivocally that they HAVE an elevator. But I am just about ready to up the ante for a hotel in Rome in order to avoid an unpleasant surprise.

What price level must one go to, to get a nice hotel room? "Nice" is relative, I know, but a very nice 3*** or a 4***. I have searched the Romaturismo site repeatedly and keep coming up with the usual suspects.

Hotel Canada seems to have very good reviews at tripadvisor. Only 1 negative out of 40 recent posts.

It has a lift.

I couldn't find any reviews for you on www.slowtrav.com, but I did a little searching. It looks like a nice place for the price.

It has 70 rooms. It is not a B&B on the top of a palazzo.

Yes, I saw the photos and the good reviews on tripadvisor. And I thought I detected the tone of an exasperated parent in your sans-smiley face post. I recognize it all too well!

I do appreciate your help. I haven't been to Rome in decades, since I had my appendix out in Naples at age 14 while on a school holiday. Now I am returning with my youngest child who is almost that age! (With bad knees, a camera and a Fodors---who'd of thought, so many years ago when I lived in Europe that I would someday be a tourist. . .)
