Has anyone lost their "favorites" with all their travel links?

My computer crashed and I lost all my web links (100+) to all my travel-related favorites. How in the world can I ever recreate them all. I guess I will have to start from scratch, but what a job! I am on a network, but I guess my favorites are not saved on the network. I know now how to save them to Word, which is backed up every day, but a word of warning to others, back up and save.

go to start.
go to to programs
go to accessories
go to system tools
go to system restore
pick the date before the crash and see if that helps

Thanks Janda - I went through System tools, but I do not have a system restore. The computer tech assured me that there was no way to restore it. I really wanted others to know that this can happen and you can lose a lot of very valuable information.

Barb,

If your bookmarks have been obliterated, then you may do a search on this website to recreate your favorites.

This may help you ....
What are some good travel websites?

Barb, I sympathize with you. I keep my favorites in an Excel file with a different worksheet for each country. I back up the file on a floppy.

If you email me I'll send you my file. Perhaps we have some of the same "favorites."

I don't know what kind of browser or operating system you have, but there should be a lot easier way to copy your Favorites as a backup file to a disk (or even just send it to some email account as an attachment because the file is small) than copying items to WORD.

for MSIE, you just go to the File button on the top of the browser bar, then click on "Import and Export" and follow the directions. It saves all your Favorites as a small file in whatever directory you want and you can just copy that to disk or something--if you follow the "export" instructions. Then, if you need to restore them or want them on another computer, you follow the directions to "import" that file.

YOu should be backing up your email, also, probably, periodically.

Thanks Christina - that's what I meant when I said save to Word. You use the import/export function. Wish I had known about that before.

In 10 years, I have never had a crash of my hard drive. Still, I was advised to install another internal drive just in case. This was done, and periodically I transfer my important files. A switch in time saves adrenaline.

Someone else had the same problem about a year ago. Here's the link with many Fodorites offering their favorites.

Christina, thanks for the export "lesson." I immediately saved all my favorites! I never even thought about it before, but will also do it on my office computer and save it to a disk because we are getting new pcs. (But who would ever use their office computer for Fodors???)

I just updated and saved my favorites.
When I did a print preview, there are 119 single spaced pages.
I sure there are many that are out-dated but I wouldn't want to lose them.

How cool that you can save favorites! I never knew what that import/export thing was until now. It turns out that I've got 13 pages of favorites.

Thanks for passing the word along!
