Has anyone here stayed in this VRBO Paris apt?

http://www.vrbo.com/9528

We are thinking of booking this apartment because we need to make a budget choice since we will be in France for 23 days. We would rent for 12 nights as the apartment says it's weekly rental is 6 nights and the agent confirmed this.

Please give me any info you can...thanks.

It looks like a nice studio to me. I wonder if you really understood the rental terms, though. That rate says it is the weekly rate if you book 6-7 days, basically (as the daily rate for 6 days would be higher), but I don't think that implies that you would have to pay two weeks rental for staying there 12 nights -- you should pay one week rent plus five nights at the daily rate, which is cheaper than two weeks at the weekly rate 2*520=1040 euro versus 520+(5*90)=970 euro.

Photobear,
I rented this apartment in May of 2005 and was very pleased with the location and the accommodations. It is a "budget choice" as you stated with no frills but the bed was very comfortable and it is huge compared to a hotel room. The booking was very easy and there is a delightful woman (Mme. Kubo) who lives in the building to greet you and give you the keys. She will help with any problem that may arise (I had none). Lots of buses right across the street make it very easy to get around Paris. This area has tons of nice restaurants and rue Saint Dominique is great for food shopping. If you will be there in spring, it is a lovely area to walk in the evenings. Have a great time!

I verified the 6 nights rule with the renter...It's true. They said a week is 6 nights/ 7 days...When I asked about renting 14 nights, they quoted me 2 weeks and 2 days at a daily rate on top of the 2 weeks.

Minimn, do you remember what bus routes were near there...Thanks.

I hope it's the right choice for us.

The bus lines right across the street are 42, 69, and 87. Many more right down the street near Ecole Militaire.

The 69 bus line is my favorite. I love how bright and sunny the studio is -- I hope they're giving you a very good deal for how many nights you're staying.

BTW, why are you dealing with an agent if this is a vrbo listing?

Photobear Jan 5th, 2007 04:47 PM

Ohhhh...I like those bus lines. Seems promising.

I did not mean agent, it is the owner...Can you tell we just bought a property...Agents are just on my mind.

Thanks for all the advice.

Maybe it's just me, but I'd balk at renting from anyone who calls 14 nights "2 weeks plus 2 nights". Or for that matter anyone who calls a weekly rental 6 nights.

Photobear Jan 5th, 2007 04:59 PM

I guess I am not balking because the price is still reasonable. It's a question of how much I really want to stay there I guess.

I have been emailing a Fodor's poster that has stayed there and I have gotten a lot of info from her. She has helped a lot. We are probably just going to stay 12 days and do more time in northern France.

I read somewhere that Bus 69 give you your own "Tour" if you don't mind no commentary. My husband would prefer buses because he just had a knee replacement and even though we are young, his joints don't love stairs.

Up till now, it's the apartment on the top of our list.

I called about another VRBO listing just after Christmas, and they also quoted me for 6 nights, as the week and added 2 extra nights for a 8 night stay.

NeoPatrick Jan 5th, 2007 05:15 PM

Maybe I should back off on my earlier reply. I had never heard of such a thing as calling 6 nights a week. But you are right that it remains a good price.
A year or more ago I would have also balked at that "studio" idea, but I have since decided that having the bed and the sitting area in one room, if it's large, is a whole lot better than having two tiny rooms you can't turn around in. It looks very spacious for the square footage, but is certainly more spacious than if that same area was divided in half!

Neo...At first I thought I was going blind. We own a motel and chalet business here in Eastern Canada and we book the chalets weekly and our is 7 nights.

I thought that was the norm but I have seen some listing for the northern part of my province that list 6 nights. I thought they were cookoo...

The price is nice and I was not sold until Minimn said the buses were across the street...Definate plus...

Next I'll be opening my "dozen egg" carton and only finding 10 eggs, or only getting 3/4 a tank of gas after putting in the full number of gallons it holds, or being told "that's it" at the end of 50 minutes of a 1 hour anything. When did a week become 6 nights?

No fries with your combo, no coffee with breakfast...

I know what you mean.

Topping to see if anyone else has stayed there.:)
