Has anyone had experience with these hotels in Germany?
Good afternoon
We are planning a 4 week tour of Germany in December. I've booked the following hotels and would appreciate any feedback from those who may have stayed there: Dresden - Gewandaus Nuremburg - Sheraton Carlton Rothenburg- Eisenhut Munich - Torbrau Lindau - Yachthotel Helvetica Freiburg area - Gasthaus Lowen Baden Baden - Aqua Aurelia Will stay at the Marriot in Heidelburg and FRA Marriott the last 2 nights - they are standard and familiar. Thank you! |
Dresden - Gewandhaus Hotel: Several of my American friends (and also business friends) have stayed there in the last years and everyone was super happy. But you must know that currentl there is a construction site in front of the hotel (Hilton builds another hotel there). They start with the noise at 7 am. I would request a room not in that direction.

I've stayed in Marriots and found them souless so I might not stay there. "If I wanted to stay at home I wouldn't have gone on vacation"

Stayed at Aqua Aurelia. Upscale hotel right next to the Caracalla spa. Very modern. It's a good hotel but we prefer to stay at the Maison Messmer, which is right by the Kurhaus and overall has a better location IMO (BB is pretty compact though, it's a short walk from the AA into the heart of town), esp if you plan to visit the Christmas market -- it's right next to that as well. The MM has its own spa, which can be great if you're there on a week-day, esp while schools are still in session. On some visits I was able to have the pool and steam room all to myself for 45 mins or so. Nice! Caracalla can get quite crowded. https://www.hommage-hotels.com/en/maison-messmer-baden-baden/our-hotel

Weisser Tee, this apartment certainly has a prime location! Would also be perfect for the 5 pm open air Christvesper in front of the Frauenkirche.
The Hilton by the Frauenkirche urgently needs a renovation. My guess is that they will revamp it after the new one opens. Btw, the Kempinski Grand Hotel Taschenbergpalais was renovated and will reopen in a few days. Well done, from what I heard (the restaurant is already open - Kastenmeier's moved from Kurländer Palais to the Taschenbergpalais, specialised in seafood and really excellent.) |
I too have stayed at the Aparthotels Frauenkirche, but our apartment was in the Münzgasse location. It was an absolutely super location (in the tourist street), and our apartment also had a washer and an oven. That was about 11-12 years ago now, so I won't harp on about it as it was such a long time ago, but all of the Frauenkirche apartments are all very central to sightseeing and not expensive (at the time).

I am a Marriott employee; don't find them (at least our property) souless.

The Gewandhaus in Dresden is not soulless at all.
