Has anyone eaten at Quo Vadis or The Gay Hussar (in London)?
I have to take some people out to eat (on my own money) and they want to see the “delights” of Soho. So I need a restaurant that is thereabouts.
I would normally go to The Lindsey House but this time I want to try somewhere I’ve not been before.
So has anyone been to either of these or has any brilliant ideas of other places – must be reasonably upmarket and not Chinese?
If you have been could you give an idea of costs?
Or should we just get a pensioners leg kebab and a few tins of Diamond White?

I can't give you any idea of what the restaurants are like, but the menus with prices are online for both places:

I went to Quo Vadis years ago, so its probably changed a bit over time. The food was very good though, as was the bar.
I was part of a large group and our table was in the middle of the restaurant, which might have taken away from the dining experience of those around us. If you are making a reservation, it might be worth asking if there are any groups in ... and requesting a table further away.

I have been to Quo Vadis a few months ago and quite liked it.
We were a group of around 12 - 15 and had a 3-course dinner with about 3 choices per course in a separate room upstairs. I thought the quality was far above average and the cost was reasonable as we had an arrangement that labelled the dinner as pre-theatre or so. I seem to recall GBP 30.00 - 35.00 for the food. The drinks brought the cost up considerably (and adequately for a good night out) to around GBP 75.00 per head, I would guess. Service was good.
If I am not mistaken, it's run by the same guys that run Fino, so if you know that and approve of its quality you know what to expect.

I used to go the Gay Hussar quite regularly (when I worked 'round the corner at Foyles) and thoroughly enjoyed it every time. I haven't been for about five years or so, so can't vouch for it recently, but remember it as being well priced and definitely different from the vast majority of places in Soho. Most importantly, I never had a duff meal there.
Another option, which may be slightly easier on the pocket is the French House. The food's very good and the atmosphere definitely feels like you're having a big night out in Soho, but in a good way.
Beware of the ponces drinking halves at the bar downstairs though.

Exactly. Normally clutching a dog-eared copy of Sartre, wearing directional hair and trying to look tortured.
You could add Zilli fish, but I don't think it stands up to the other options. The food's fine, but for me it feels a bit too 'canteeny' for a big night out.

Where as I will have a dog eared copy of the Sporting Life, no hair and look like a torturer.
