Has anyone done any tours within Palermo? This is my first experience traveling total
I’m traveling to Palermo in early September to join a walking group. I will be arriving by myself and have an afternoon and the next morning to fill. This is my first experience traveling totally alone. I was considering signing up for a tour I.e. walking street food, or cooking class. Can anyone recommend a nice tour?

Not tours but it is very easy to trek up to Montreale - on northern edge of Palermo on your own and visit the famous monastery and also church with lots of skulls and bones. Or take a tour there if nothing else pans out.

Personal Guide Sicily was recommended here on Fodors and I plan to hire him in the future.

I had looked into doing a food tour with this company when I was in Sicily in March:
Streaty | Street Food Tours of Sicily Italy
Unfortunately, they weren't running any tour while I was there. Next time!
I was there alone before a tour, too. I enjoyed visiting the Palermo Archaeological Museum:

I did a solo trip to Sicily a few years ago. I did over three weeks on my own and had a wonderful time! It was not my first solo trip however. I did a half day walking tour with expert professional guide Jackie Alio who I recommend highly. She will focus on whatever your interests are. She is extremely busy so it may be too late to get her, but try!

There is a littel hop and hop off bus for free you can you in the old centre or buy a 24 hour ticket for not a lot (< E2 I think) from the shack near the train station (or the other major ticket places around town)

You don't really need a tour, it's doable on your own. In Palermo, see the Capella Palatino (gorgeous 12th century chapel) and take a bus for a half day trip outside Palermo to see Monreale Cattedrale (if your walking tour doesn't cover it already).
