Has anyone been to Lake Como in late April?

Hello - DH and I have travelled several times in various areas of Italy. On our last trip, we drove from Lake Garda to Milan with an afternoon stop in Bellagio. I'd love to take him back there for a special birthday that's coming up in April. with only 7 days on the ground, we'd probably fly in and out of Milan and spend the full time in and around Como. I'd appreciate any ideas on lodging (150-200e/night avg), sites, if a sidetrip to Bergamo is a good idea, etc...and if the weather in late April is not typically rainy or cold. I realize that any weather is subject to huge fluctuations. Thanks!

We spent three nights in Bellagio in late April (28-30) a few years years ago. For us the weather was fine. There was a passing rain shower one day. On another we wore our gloves, but we were out on the lake traveling by boat to the northernmost end and back. Other times at midday we didn't even wear our jackets. The bonus at this time of year: all the rhododendrons, wisteria, and azaleas at Villa Carlotta were in bloom--magnificent.

What dates in April? The entire month can be very iffy but later the better. If you plan to use trains then I suggest Varenna and the Hotel Du Lac. If you stay in Bellagio then the Hotel Florence is in your price range and very centro, but the Belvedere has fabulous vistas from the hill above town. Also, consider the La Limonera apts. in Bellagio.

We were in Lake Como at the very end of April this past Spring -- weather was beautiful. We stayed at Il Perlo Panormana. Its about 3km up a hillside and has fantastic views. U could easily walk into town and they do run a shuttle, but I'm not certain of the frequency. We were too lazy to walk up the hill from town to the hotel. I think we paid around 100 euros.

My sister and I were in Bellagio this past Spring, May 1-4. We lucked out with the weather. Cool, but pleasant temps and plenty of sunshine. They said that the two weeks before were very rainy.

This is where we stayed, I highly recommend it. www.residencelalimonera.com
