HI,
has anyone done Perillo's South Italy Tour for 14 days??Its our first time in Italy and I am traveling with seniors so opted for the tour way to go.
Just wondering how much leisure time you have , and how much you actually "see" verses "visit"?
Also how gruelling is the itinerary?
thanks

DUMB, dumb title! If you want some help try posting again with a better title that mentions Perrillo South Italy, etc.

Michele,

If you repost your message under a different title, I'm sure there are some people on this forum who have taken one of Perillo's tours and would be happy to answer your question. Enjoy the trip in any case!

M

Give michele a break! I don't know about Perillo, but I've heard very good things about Globus. There's a chat area on the Trafalger site that has some glowing reviews, but I've heard lots of negatives about them as well. There are also some recommendations at the Thorntree site you might look into (lonelyplanet.com) Italy is wonderful. Have a great trip.

Well, maybe he was rude to call you dumb, but he was trying to help. You need to RE POST WITH A BETTER TITLE! "has anyone???" is one of the worst thread titles I have seen. Michele - there is no "Italy" forum. All threads are lumped together. Your "has anyone???" could be asking ANYTHING about ANYWHERE. Aren't you curious why you haven't gotten any useful response ---- because 95% of the people will not read threads with ambiguous titles. Please try again.

Actaully Suzy, Michele did repost with a more useful thread title ('Perillo tour/ South Italy') just over 2 hours ago...so what use is your addition to this thread?
YES-.Its a great Trip! We went with Perillo in the fall of '99. Members of my family have been going with Perillo to Italy (and Ireland in years past) for generations. The Sicily & South Italy was our first trip to Europe, it was an event of a lifetime. Since then we've had several trips to Italy & France. This winter we go to Prague. Pay attention to the guides and you will see and know everything that is important. I look at my photos and am amazed at how much we saw and did. When they recommend something (like going to the Effizi museum in Florence) just do it. Age groups were mixed... the older folks were the most fun. Some of the seniors complained about walking but the guides do everything possible to make it easier. Bring good walking shoes the old roads are hard on the feet. You can do as much or as little as you want (e.g. stay with the bus or share a cab back to the hotel). We took all the side trips except the catacombs in Rome (this is time when you might have some extra leisure time). I know that I snoozed plenty on the bus ride between cities. We loved every minute of the tour (Capri, Taurmina, Rome, & Florence are some favorites). Great new wines every night with dinner. Those formal balls are amazing... something I would never do on my own. The hotel locations make them great... walk the city centers at night when they are truly beautiful, except in Palermo they where they were afraid that we would be kidnapped. Hope this helps.
