Has any one been to Greece in November end-December Beginning...??

Hi,

I plan to visit Greece in November last week-December first week. I wanted your inputs on the weather (first and foremost) and the places to see for a ten day visit.

Also is it advisable to visit the island of Santorini or give it a miss coz of the rains..?

Is the trip worth while in Winters at all... what is the temprature likely to be..????? (in C)
What's the scene with the local shops and resturants... are they mostly shut with only a few open for locals... the transport services and the ferry rides....
Please write in with all your valuable suggestions...!!

Amrita - if you will click on my name, you'll find a thread I started about 3-4 weeks ago on this very subject. It has a lot of info you're looking for.

The bottom line: the AVE temps will be lows in the 50sF to highs in the 60sF, with 2 in. of rain for Nov and Dec each. Ferry service is limited, and many shops, hotels and restaurants do close. [We've found a number that are open]. We're going due to somewhat unusual circumstances (as set out in my post), but you'll have to decide whether all this fits your plans.

I have not been to Greece that time of year but in April the smaller islands had limited accomodation open before May. Islands such as Fologandros, Amorgos would not be a good choice out of season. If you go to the larger islands such as Crete or Naxos you will not have a problem especially in the larger cities such as Hania, Crete. On Santorini, even if some places close down, I would think that there will be others that will stay open for the year especially in Thira.

It will be cold and windy with paritally cloudy skies. Mornings will be damp. Rainfall on the island is low but it is possible. 90% of all businesses will be closed. Mostly, only those serving the local population remain open, with the exception of a few hotels and restaurants. The nightlife will be very limited since most of the bars and discos will have closed in October. Your best chance for hotels, restaurants and entertainment will be in Fira. Oia is the most beautiful village.
