Oh yes! I read "Miss Garnet's Angel" and was enchanted. About the time I finished the book, we had an opportunity to go to Venice for the very first time. And we were enchanted by the city - visited 3 times in 13 months and we did walk over to see the Campo Angelo Raffaele and the Archangel Raphael atop the church. (although the church was mostly covered with scaffolding)

"A Room with a View" (the movie & the novel) has made me want to go to Florence since I was 19. Add to that my fascination with Leonardo da Vinci and I feel I really must go to that area before I die.

And then there's Kenneth Branagh's "Much Ado About Nothing" filmed in Tuscany at the Villa Vignamaggio & I feel I need to fit that into the Florence itinerary as well.

I'll probably be going to Italy with my sister late 2005.

A friend has tentatively invited me to go to Rome late 2004/2005. He feels that I will fall in love with that city every bit as much as I love Paris!! If he's still interested at that time, I will go!!!

My love of Leonardo also made me long for Paris many, many moons before I finally went there. My 1st trip in 2002 was the culmination of a life-long dream. And of course there's all the Paris movies, too: Gigi, An American in Paris

There is a short story by H. P. Lovecraft called "The Music of Erich Zann" set in Paris. Very spooky. One of my favorites of his. His descriptions of the winding, narrow streets, the claustrophobic teetering 6-story buildings really built up images of Paris for me. I had great expectations of seeing these fabulous curving cobblestoned streets before I went. I found everything I sought!!!

Swept Away. The original 70's version. The waters of Sardinia from this film captured my attention. We made the trip a few months ago and found the sea to be more than beautiful, especially in Stintino and near La Maddalena. We fell in love with Sardinia and its people.

Alaska by James Michener. I read it many years ago, but I've never found anyone who wanted to go with me, so it remains #1 on my list of places I'd like to go to--just not alone.

I can't believe no one's mentioned "The Sound of Music."

"Enchanted April." I just had to rent a villa in Italy---and also see Portofino. Too bad I couldn't afford the villa IN Portofino!
