For three drinks, not much wine and three plates, 275 E - come on, it's not possible. Possibly Ripped Off refers to us, troll bait supreme. I'm beginning to wonder, aren't you? Maybe we'd better save our kind thoughts for more legitimate postings. Or else Ripped Off needs to hop on here tout de suite and give us an itemized bill.

This is a troll, right. Whoever would pay almost $300 USD for that "meal"? No disrespect intended, but you have got to wonder what they ate. He must be leaving somethings out. Saw the Times piece too. Something here is not correct.

Actually, again according to Frommer's, main courses are around 46.80 to 57.20 Euro each. I wouldn't have said that a primi should have cost as much as a 'secondi' by which I assume they mean a main course. But, assuming a primi costs the same, that gives roughly 150 for 3 primi; 30 Euro for 3 Bellini, or subtotal of 240; that leaves 35 Euro for a half litre of wine - (the toughest to guess, since wine varies so much.) OUCH!
|
Oops, can't do math today. Meant to say, (3 * 50 = ) 150 + (3 * 10) = 30 = 180, not 240! That leaves...95 for a half litre of wine?!

Remember to add the service and the seating (bread) charges.
I walked into Harrys in Venice (because I worked across the hall from the one in Century City, Ca.) and walked right out again. It seemed too noisy and contrived to me, like alot of wannabes congratulating themselves for being in Harrys Bar.

I can easily believe the price, we paid $46 for 2 drinks, a Bellini and a Gin & Tonic (peanuts not included but tax and tip were) at the bar at the Rainbow Room in New York. Also run by the Cipriani's who run Harry's Bar in Venice.

I was at Harry's bar last summer. At the time, a bowl of soup was 65,000 lire (around 30 dollars at the time). A bellini was around 15 US dollars. We had a blast at the bar for a few hours, but we definitly paid for it. We met some great people from all over the world and dined with them the following evening, and went for drinks at another location after Harry's.

I think R.O.'s post was perfectly reasonable. But most of all, I thank M Kane for "anticipateable". Lovely.
