London Bridge station was notoriously built in Victorian times by razing a huge swathe of working class public housing. the area around it is honeycombed with the huge brick train arches, many of which have empty streets down them, a few converted into shops. The triple decker ride Harry Potter takes (the one with the shrunken head driver) and that leads to a secret Hogwarts motel in a derelict rail tunnel is directly left of the trashy London Dungeon next door to the station. Madonna and Coldplay also filmed music videos there. The tunnels are very atmospheric, a creepily deserted and dank world apart from the busy streets around. Its safe too though doesn't look it.
And yeah, there are secret clubs there. I once came across a virtual model army of hundreds of BBC (British Born Chinese) looking gorgeous going into those tunnels, turned out it was the ball organised by London's Chinese student organisations. I lived there and to this day still cant work out where on earth they were disappearing to. |
Did someone dig a hole to China?
(sorry - childhood joke) |
Zupermaus:
It wasn't a ball. All those BBCs you see in Chinatown and Queensway on Sundays? You ever wondered where they live the rest of the time? Now you've found out. |
I ever timer-shot a pic of myself at platform 4, King's Cross. Was intending to edit the image later to show 9 3/4. One station staff lumbered pass and you should really see the incredible look of disdain he had.
I'm 32. But I thought that was really fun. |
Durham Cathedral was also used in the first two movies (see
http://www.thesnitch.co.uk/site/inde...am%20Cathedral) It's an astounding place and well worth a visit whether one is a Harry Potter fan or not. |
