Hard to Avoid French Holidays in May?

I will be traveling to France next May 2007. I just found out from reading some posts that there are a lot of holidays in France in that month. I see that May 17 is Ascension, but that is fine since I will be in Switzerland that day. Arriving in Paris May 19 and staying til May 26, and no holidays that week as far as I can tell. However on May 26 I am taking the train to Provence, and I see that the 27th and the 28th are Pentecost and Whit Monday respectively. As I know much of Provence is closed on Mondays anyway, will my Sunday and Monday be noticeably affected with many closings and/or will the region be congested at that time? I only have 6 days in the region, and I can still change my frequent flyer tickets if it will be a big deal.
Thanks!

I've been in the South of France the dates you listed and didn't noticed any impacts to daily (typical tourist)activities. I'll say to go ahead w/plans.

Thanks although I know the holidays don't fall on the same dates every year.

This may help:

It's from a website called "Anglo-info Riviera".

(I googled "public holidays France" and this was one of the results.)

Can anyone who's been in Provence or even Paris on Pentecost Sunday tell me if everything is closed that day?

Like for example, would the Isle Sur la Sorgue market be open that day, since their market day is a Sunday?
