Hannover for a Fair. Stay in city or ?
Going to a June trade fair in Hannover. Hotels pretty full. Best to stay in Hannover or elsewhere? Maybe Berlin??? Plan to take some time out for sightseeing. Appreciate your thoughts.

A colleague used to regularly attend fairs in Hannover. She once stayed at a hotel in Hamelin (Hameln)and claimed that that was her best location, a pretty town away from the fair hustle & bustle.

Joe,
while I like Berlin a lot, I certainly would not recommend staying there if you are attending a fair in Hannover. They are just too far apart. If Hannover hotels are already booked, what about Hildesheim? In Celle, Fuerstenhof might be an option. The utmost I would consider is Hamburg (which I have heard is where quite a number of people are staying during Hannover peak times). This woould take you about one and a quarter hour on an express train (Berlin is slightly more than 1.5 hours). The difference might appear to be not that much, but it's still 20 minutes twice a day and they begin to count after (and before) a strenous day at the fairgrounds. Plus, the fairgrounds are a good ride away from the Main Train Station in Hannover, something you've got to allow for, too. All in all I would even shy away from Hamburg. Focus on the area around Hannover and if you feel ready for some timeout allow for one or two extra days and spend them in Berlin, Hamburg or wherever you like. |
Hi Joe,
my brother was at the Hannover fair a couple of weeks ago. He usually stays in small places near Hannover, but this time they opted for Göttingen. Every day they took the ICE to Hannover, and it stopped at the fair. It is an special service during the different fairs. Most people book their hotels and B&B´s the previous year, so it can be a bit difficult. Have you checked the Fair accomodation service? http://www.hannovermesse.de/21104?x=1 Rgds, Cova |
I have nothing intelligent to add to this post, but I will share that when I first saw it, as I was scrolling down, quite obviously way too fast, I thought it said, “HANGover for a fair”. Immediately you had my sympathy, and I thought, “Ahhhh, that poor soul, bless his heart”.
I hope it wasn't a premonition, Joe you be careful now and think twice about how much wine is consumed before you head out for that trade fair, heee. Hope this gave you a giggle, indeed it is the little things that sometimes get you through the day. I'll try to scroll more slowly next time. Best wishes, T. |
