Hand warmers for travelers

I'm looking to purchase some small hand warmers to take with us on an upcoming trip. I'm not even sure what they are called and can't find them at Magellans (and other sites). I've seen ones that you 'break' or squeeze to get the heat producing contents going.

Anyone carry along such things and, if so, where did you find them or what are they called?

I just bought pocket warmers for my upcoming trip to Prague. The brand I bought are "Hot Hands" but they come in many sizes and manufacturers. I bought a whole case (40 pairs) from Amazon because I know I'll use them back home, but you can buy single pairs at camping and sporting goods stores.

More likely to find them in outdoorsy stores/sites like Eddie Bauer, REI, and such than travel sites like Magellan.

I know several outdoors/camping outfitters around my city carry different brands. I've used "hot hands" several times and another brand I can't think of the name just now..

In addition to sporting goods stores, Bed Bath and Beyond sells them (at least in the cooler weather locations).

Eastern Mountain Sports also carries The Grabber:

Another product, the world doesn't need???

Don't knock 'em if you haven't tried 'em... especially if very cold/damp, and aching hands. Sometimes gloves aren't enough.

I used hand warmers during my trip last December, I got them at Eddie Bauer for about $6 for 6.

It was the best thing that I had in my backpack. I am looking to pack them along this year.

I buy mine at Wal-mart..Hot Hands made by Heatmax. http://www.heatmax.com

Believe me it's not another "useless" product if you have white finger syndrome , Raynaud's disease!

Lots of them on eBay if you put "hand warmers" in their search box.

Ralstonlan Oct 29th, 2006 03:28 AM

Any ski store sells them. They are a must have with Raynaud's.

Sitting up in a tree for 10-12 hours waiting for a deer you can go through a whole box of them. They also sell similar chemical-based foot warmers. Now if I could only find ones that will warm where I sit....

At this time of the year a lot of golf pro shops will carry them.

Dukey Oct 29th, 2006 04:37 PM

Logos..have you tried that brain warmer yet?

karentoft Oct 29th, 2006 04:41 PM

I also have Raynaud's disease and they are a wonderful thing to have on hand for any outdoor adventure. Our local sporting goods store stocks them year round in Minnesota.

Zeus, you might want to try the adhesive heating pads (same stuff as the Hot Hands) that are sold in the pain relief aisle of the drug store - there are different ones made for lower back, abdomen and shoulder areas. I cannot remember the name of the product, though, and I am in a hotel room, so can't check the ones I have.

logos999 Oct 29th, 2006 09:12 PM

No, Dukey, just the A.S warmer you recommended, nice, but you're right to mention to be careful not to burn your private parts thanks for that! :-)
