Hamburg Hotel recs

First stop on 10 day Germany trip is Hamburg. I am presently booked at Renaissance Hamburg Hotel, Grosse Bleichen. Any feedback on this hotel or this location? My rate is 652E for 2 nights/2 rooms....Marriott friends and family rate.

Any rec's for other hotels or locations?

My nephew helped design the Prizehotel, which he says is fun and lovely. I'm not sure where it's located in relation to the Renaissance, but he was there for 6 months and enjoyed the neighborhood.

Thank you DDD, I will check it out!

The location of the Renaissance is excellent, very central, in the midst of she shopping district, close to major attractions, lots of restaurants nearby.

652€ for 2 nights/2 rooms means 163€ per room per night, right? That rate sounds okay for Hamburg.

Traveller 1959-my travel agent has found a rate of 232E for the Fairmont Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten. Her Virtuoso rate includes breakfast, wifi, $85 euros of food and beverage credit and an upgrade and early check in/late check out, if available. Have you stayed there? It appears to be in close proximity to the Renaissance, but more of a luxury hotel.

Yes, the Vier Jahreszeiten is a classic grand hotel, very conservative.

Location is best in town.

A couple of years ago, the Vier Jahreszeiten was elected "world's best hotel" by a worldwide association of hotel managers.

It is certainly an excellent deal what your travel agent had found. However, I am afraid you do not get too far with your 85€ food and beverage credit.

The main restaurant has two Michelin stars.

I'm sure the 85€ food and beverage credit will pay for a couple of cocktails in the bar! :-)

traveller1959-what do you mean by "very conservative?"

The 85E excludes the two Michelin star restaurant, so maybe it will go further in the other two restaurants.

The early checkin will be a nice perk coming in from our overseas flight at 12 noon. My hope is for two restful nights sleep to get the trip off to a good start. From what I have read, this is a quiet, central location.
