Hamburg, Germany
Does anyone think this is an interesting place to spend a few days? I've heard it's a nice place to live, but how is it for a tourist? Is it a nice place to wander around? Thanks for your opinions.

Hi Paige!

I can highly recommend Hamburg as a very interesting place to visit. There are lots of other messages about Hamburg in this forum- they can give you some opinions aboutthe town.
I am german and my favourite town besides Munich is defnetely Hamburg. There are so many places to go shopping. Plenty of very good museums and fantastic architecture (town hall, Speicherstadt, areas around the Binnen and Außenalster, Elbchausse, Eppendorf, Blankenese.....)
It`s absolutely fantastic- I am sure yóu`ll like it. Fell free to email me for further information.
Andy

Paige: I do second Andy's comment. I would go back anytime. Great place to wander around. The Binnenalster looks almost like a lake, just sailing-boats allowed.
have fun!

Send me your E-Mail address. I live near Hamburg. Might even give your a guided tour if time allows. Hamburg is a nice place - lots of things to see and to do. Good international restaurants and lots of shopping.
Hans-Juergen Schulz

I did a two week home exchange in Hamburg several years ago. It is a city not well known to North Americans. There are tons of things to do. I recommend a trip to Wedel where the boats come down the Elbe. As they come in they play the national anthem of the flag displayed by the boat and bid them welcome. When the boats leave they wish them good bye. It is all done by computer and there is a restaurant where you can eat and watch the show. You can get there on the subway or by public bus.

If you have time Lubeck is a wonderful smaller city and has a terrific puppet museum. I liked it because it was just so different.

Don't forget to take a boat cruise in the harbor. That harbor is something else!

If you have time--and it is still playing--go see "Buddy". It is playing on an island in the harbor. You get tickets at tourist information. I do not speak German, but it was no problem to understand it and it was lots of fun. Feel free to email me if you have questions.

Would someone please explain to Rex how the Forums work before he does something really nasty?

Rex, one of the "disappeared" threads is right above this one. I'm sure you can find the others, too.

Well, I shouldn't be up this late (and I shouldn't be responding to this post), but we had a great family night out tonight, and then stayed up to watch the videotapes of Survivor.

But I digress...

What the heck are you talking about?
