Thanks everyone for the advice, both the good and the slightly mean!

P.S- I ask my mom becasue I value her opinion.

Of course you should ask your mom as least as much as everyone on here asks complete strangers!

I ask my family and friend's opinions all the time! Have fun.

Now, no one was slightly mean. We were just joking along. Smile! Besides, I wear my shorts in Europe, in spite of my legs.

sweetpea, those little shrug sweaters are very popular, you can wear one over the halter and take it off when you feel confortable.(and on when chilly)

In europe halter tops are considered either resort wear/play wear or evening wear.

However, there are no laws on this so you can do what you want. (Except in churches in Italy - where you may be turned away - or harrangued by the locals.)

Just keep in mind that northern europe in summer MAY be quite chilly and rainy - instead of warm. So be sure to pack a couple of sweaters as well as halters.

Sorry - missed that you were 25. Why are you discussing this with your mother?

(The rest of my answer still holds. If you want to look adult and sophisticated vs like a teen - do better than halters.)

I think bearing that much skin is not particularly appropriate when you're traveling in foreign countries, no matter what your age, but then that's probably what your Mom already told you.

For major cities, I mean. My answer would be different if this was a beach vacation.

katie, I can't get your url to unfurl.

I was just looking at the old photos and the girls in those days knew how to work it, ie: Anita Ekberg in La Dolce Vita. Now, that is how I would like to dress in Eurpe!

I'm glad you value your mother's opinion. At any age it can be a valuable resource.

Great website SeaUrchin and Katie.

BTW sweetpea, the young women in Rome certainly show a lot of skin. Their mamas do not approve either, lol.

katiekb, Now that looks very appropriate and very nice. I like it. It's not what I would consider a halter top.

Of course here is the most famous halter dress worn by the most famous halter dress wearer.

She would certainly need a scarf for St. Peter's!

Although I like ALL the dresses/halters in the links, none of them are halter tops like I remember. But then again, I have fond memories of the lovely ladies I remember seeing in the halters of yesteryear. My 48 year old dad advice is be careful, you may not think you are advertising promiscuity but young male minds see skin and probably/will think otherwise. Unwanted foreign advances may negatively affect your trip for no good reason.
