Hallstatt vs. Villach/Feldkirchen area - Austria

After seeing the Traunsee/Hallstatt area is it worth driving down to the Villach/Feldkirchen area of Austria which is close to the Italian border? I'm sure it is beautiful also, but since we MIGHT be a little pressed for time I'm wondering if we should go for it. In other words, is that area also a "must see"?

Thanks in advance.

Villach is definitely NOT a must-see area. Spend your time on the Danube or to the southwest (Grossglockner).

Regards,

Jinx Hoover

Jinx it totally correct. Villach is mediocre. Traunsee and Halstatt are both very beautiful. Traunsee - stay at Gmunden or Traunkirchen (very small but juts into the lake on a penisula). Both bigger hotels in Traunkirchen are OK but a bit dated. Food is good however. Do not bother in any way to get accommodation in Ebensee further south on Traunsee- bit of a dump. Klagenfurt not so far from Villach is supposed to be nice. But Villach itself is very forgettable. Countryside around Hallstatt/Traunsee is superior.
