Hallstatt lodging needed
Hello tripsters!
I'm planning my next summer trip to Austria and need some recommendations for lodging 2 July nights in Hallstatt. We are using public transportation so needs to be accessible to the train or bus stations.
Thank you!

Hi ib,
http://www.gasthof-simony.at/ is a big, ol B&B with rooms overlooking the lake.
We liked it when we visited.

I too stayed in the Gasthof Simony in a single room with balcony for 2 nights. I LOVED my balcony and one evening watched the most extraordinary storm pass through the mountains and over the lake. It's an easy walk from the ferry dock. If you want luxury, this isn't the place (unless a major renovation has been done.) There is a new, much higher end hotel right at the dock. I don't remember it's name. Maybe someone else will provide it. Simony's breakfast, I thought, was very basic especially compared to other places I stayed during the trip. They do have a restaurant serving dinners at night. I had the best fresh from the lake fish I think I've ever eaten at a very reasonable price. Enjoy Hallstatt. I loved it and so glad I went there even though it was out of my way. BTW, I used public transportation too.

I, too, have stayed at Gasthof Simony several times. I love it, but some people have reported on this forum that the walls are thin (maybe a little)and there is no elevator. Also, they require cash payment. It is located just a few steps from the boat dock. You will take the train from Salzburg to the Hallstatt stop, then walk down a slight hill to the boat. This approach to Hallstatt is one of the most memorable sights for me.
