Halloween in Paris
is it a 'thing' in Paris. DH and i will be there and wondering if there are any particular events we should be on the lookout for (such as a costume parade like in NY's Village).
thanks |
Halloween seems to have invaded the world, they had Halloween costumes in the stores in Spain when I was there recently. So it exists in Paris, but the costume parade in NY is really over the top, there's nothing remotely like that (there or anywhere I know of). The main things I know of in Paris are very commercially driven, of course (seems to be the main purpose of this holiday in places that have adopted it). So they have Halloween (Fete des Morts) nights at theme parks, like Disneyland, the zoo, or some bars like Hard Rock. Lots of bars. Halloween is not a French holiday so it is imported from the US, and not that prominent. For adults, I wouldn't look for anything special unless you like to go to Halloween parties in bars.
here's one in Bastille area, for example, http://www.parisetudiant.com/etudian...compagnie.html |
The big Halloween celebration is at Disney.
Otherwise, the American Library has a Halloween party and sponsors a Trick or Treat route for children in conjunction with local merchants, i.e. those in the 7th arrondissement. |
For the last several years, there has been an annual Zombie Walk through the Marais, near Hallowe'en time - people in pretty authentic Zombie drag, lots of catsup, torn sheets, etc. You might Google this - it seems this year's walk depends on contributions for one walk, but others seem to be going ahead as usual.

Halloween was a "thing" about 15 years ago and the fad lasted for maybe 2 years. The French post office even issued phosphorescent Halloween pumpkin stamps back then.
The Anglo-Saxon bars in Paris still seem to celebrate if they think it will make people drink. |
Five years ago we had about 10 or 15 trick or treaters ring our doorbell. The number has declined steadily each year and last year I don't think we even had anyone ring our doorbell.

Thanks all, so just like here in NY, avoid the bars!!!!! :)
