Half day sightseeing in Lisbon on bus??
Our time is limited in Lisbon, July 25-27th--just two days. In other cities, we've been able to take a half day sightseeing tour via a tour bus such as Grey Line Tours etc.
Do you know of any such company that does this in Lisbon? How do I contact them?
I know that there is a 'hop on & off bus.' Is there any explanations of what you are looking at on this bus?
Please don't tell us to take the metro's etc, as we are in our 70's & this is difficult for us to do. Also, we don't want to hire a private guide because of the price. So that's why I thought of a bus tour.
We are staying at Residencial Florescente, near Rossio, near Praca dos Restauradores. Can you recommend some places to eat that would be in walking distance? We certainly don't want to get trapped into any tourist places with all the good places that are in Lisbon. I would hope there would be places to choose for breakfast & get some of the great pastry & of course for dinners. Interested in where 'locals' would go.
Also, we're looking for a place to hear Fado, perhaps with dinner. Are there any places close to where we're staying?

They meet at Rossio. I believe one of the tours includes Tram 28 (the famous tourist tram), If it does, just watch your valuables. We experienced a non- threatening incident with a pick pocket. The women on the tram gave me the high sign to watch my purse.

The hop-on/hop-off bus does come with headphones that tell you what you are looking at. We've done HOHO busses in several cities, and I think the one in Lisbon was the best.
If you can, find a copy of the itinerary before you go (I found one on www.viator.com, search under Portugal for the Lisbon Cityline tour), and use a guidebook to augment what you hear on the audio.

The advantage of a HOHO tour is that you can ride the entire itinerary once to get a good overall view of Lisbon, then take it to the places that you want to spend a little more time at.

I just looked up the Viator tour & it looks like we would do that tour.
However, I can't seem to find anywhere on the site where can get the bus.
Also, is it necessary to book this tour ahead of time, or could we just go to the bus stop & pay right there?
Do they tell you where to catch the next bus when you get off for sightseeing. Would like to hear from others who have done this tour with any tips.

We took that 28 trolley when we had just a short time in Lisbon this spring. Found it soooo worthwhile. It takes you through the narrow, twisty streets of the Alfama and wends on through other Lisbon neighborhoods. At the end of the line (not sure where we were, a more modern neighborhood), we had to get off, wait a few and then board another trolley and pay a second fare. No biggie. Took it back to the Alfama district where we got off to explore Sao Jorge. A very enjoyable day and we felt like we'd seen a good deal of Lisbon despite our brief time.

I think -- you can purchase the tickets right on the bus at any of its stops. The website for the Cityline bus is www.cityline-sightline.pt - click for the English version. There is a route map.

I did the hop on hop off blue and yellow tours. The blue (Tagus)is definitely the best choice if you are short on time. A good view of the monuments. The yellow was ok especially if you want to hop off to spend time at the Parque das Nacoes.
