Half board, full Board?
 

Question about a room with half board: <BR>Full board is room and all meals, right? <BR>Which meals are including in half board? <BR>Can someone give me the quick lowdown? <BR>I love this forum, everyone is so great and <BR>knowledgable. Thanks for your help. <BR>

Christine: In Germany, typically "Half Board" is your room (with or without bath/WC) and will include breakfast. You were right about "Full Board", it includes all meals for that day as well as your room. <BR> <BR>This is a cool forum, isn't it?

Christine, <BR>I believe half-board or half-pension is breakfast & dinner. This can be a great deal because you often get a four or five course dinner meal at a great discount. The bad side is that you may get food you don't particularly like. I've taken half board in Germany and in Switzerland, where it is especially prevalent at winter/ski resorts (who has the energy to go out looking for restaurants???). <BR> <BR>Full board is breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Half board consists of Breakfast and either lunch or dinner. Generally, your choices are limited for lunch or dinner. <BR>It's really a crap shoot. At some places it is a real plus; at others, it's average.

I've organized ski trips to Austria and Italy for my friends over the past 7 years. We always go with 1/2 board which includes b'fast and dinner. I disagree that choices are limited. I think this depends where you stay.

Half-board is breakfast (Continental or otherwise) and either lunch or dinner. Most commonly, dinner is the second mea since most folks are out on activities during the day. <BR> <BR>Good buy or not depends on the hotel and your normal evening meal habits while on holiday. If you normally enjoy big meals the half-board plan is likely to be a pretty good buy ... presuming, of course, the hotel provides quality food. <BR> <BR>Many hotels, for at least part of the year will provide the option of taking half-board or not. Although many hotels in 'resort' areas require half-board during the peak. <BR> <BR>Some hotels will give a credit on a day by day basis against your half-board charge if you'd like to eat elsewhere on the occasional night. Usually you must give notice by, say, 11am, sometimes the night before.
