Half Board...?????
Hi everyone,
This is a little late asking this question, but what exactly is a "half Board" that is always a consideration when reserving a room. Just curious. Phyllis :) |
Half board means breakfast and dinner included. Full board is breakfast, lunch and dinner.
|
A hotel offering Half Board will provide breakfast & an evening meal, whilst Full Board means that lunch will be provided as well.

JJBhoy is partially right. There are many hotels that offer half board that will serve breakfast and then give you a choice of either lunch or dinner as the second meal. But full board is, of course, three meals included.

thanks everyone. Now I understand the terms for reserving a room.

Also check with them what kind of evening meal is offered. In some hotels, half-board means you are given the daily special, you can't choose from the menu. Others have a limited menu you can select from and still others let you choose from the entire menu. Some of the larger hotels may have several restaurants of varying formality and price levels.
For example, we will be spending a week at the Royal Trofana (www.trofana.at) in Ischgl with half board. One night we can eat in their most formal dining room, choosing anything we want from the menu. The rest of the time, we'll be eating in their more slightly casual restaurant (which is still VERY nice) and choosing from a more limited menu and from their dinner buffet. Since the hotel has a Michelin star and 18/20 Gault Millau rating and has won awards as the best hotel restaurant in Austria, we are not worried about the quality of the food :-) But something else to check...how good the restaurant is and the type of cuisine offered. |
You're right, of course, Patrick.
It's just that usually, when it comes to these help-yourself buffet breakfasts, I'm still eating mine when they start serving lunch :) Jim |
