Can I use my UK Hairdryer in Italy without setting my head on fire???? If so, what kind of adapter should I take?

A UK hairdryer should work fine in Italy, and all you need is the plug adaptor -- one that has two prongs to put in the wall and that takes the big three angled prongs of your UK plug.

You might want to check the voltage numbers just to be certain.

Also, I have noticed that Europe uses two different sizes of the two-round-prong type plugs; the ones used in Italy seem to be "skinnier" than the ones for France and Germany. Just fyi.

The voltage will be fine, I've used my hair dryer from the UK all over Europe, including Italy. When traveling in France, Germany and Italy I used the same 2-prong plug adapter with no problems.

UK uses 240V, Italy 220V, there's no chance that you'll set your head on fire.

I noticed that many Italian hotels have greatly improved their hairdryers! I stayed in 7 hotels over 3 weeks and more than half of them had completely adequate dryers. Leave yours at home and travel more lightly!

Dayle, ever heard of Murphy's law? If I were to leave my hair dryer at home, the hotel surely won't have one. Or if they do have one, it will be some weenie dryer that takes so long to use, it would be faster to stick my head behind the exaust of a car. :-O But if I do take it along, it's guaranteed there will be a much nicer hair dryer that comes with the room. Take the hair dryer!! :-)

The apartment we rented in Nice this summer is owned by a Brit. Everything in the apartment was from the UK -- toaster, fan, hairdryer, stereo, toaster oven. All had UK plugs and there were adapters all over the place so they'd fit in the outlets, but all worked perfectly.

When I make my hotel reservations, the one thing I confirm is that they have hairdryers! I can be happy if most have dryers that put out some air AND heat. I'd rather put up with a wimpy dryer a couple of days than to have to lug one along!
