Cathinjoetown ;
No wonder there was no traffic light in mid-Sept. It is not considered high season.

PV,

I realize that, guess I wasn't being clear because I was trying to mke the point that the drive would not have bothered me if all traffic were one-way as in high season.

Even in high season, traffic is not high on such roads.

You don't need to drive on any of these roads if you want to see the main tourist sites/cities such as Aix en Provence,Arles, Nimes, Avignon, Carcassonne, Sète, Montpellier. It's all easy driving on highways. July and August are very busy months in the south of France in terms of traffic both on highways and country roads.

Now I know why the Gorges de Verdon was a nerve-wracking drive--we were on the outer rim. No guard rails like the US has.

You should drive up the road from Bolinas to Mt. Tam and back down to the Bay area.

The road from Gordes to Senanque is now one way, which eliminates the scary bit of not being wide enough for two cars. I would take that one off the hair-raising list.

The road that got to me was the drive down Mt. Ventoux towards Malaucene. I was OK going up the mountain, but at the top where there are no trees, it was a bit white-knuckle for me.
