I’m going to differ with you on that point. It was one of a kind, esthetically, the mature tree, the shape & position. It’s descendants are not IT. All of it, as it was known & loved, is lost.

There are two programmes on British Telly this week about this - an attempt to explore the grief experienced around its demise and maybe touch upon the motives. The culprits are sentenced this week.

It gives me no pleasure to see two people locked up in prison (goodness knows at what cost) for cutting down this tree. What a senseless act. It is being used to focus the discussion on UK deforestation which has been going on for thousands of years. That tree should have been surrounded by a forest and that landscape is completely man (and sheep) made.

It also should trigger a deeper question about planet deforestation, there is still no agreement on the rate of deforestation, not only in the Amazon (which is bonkers) but also around the world.

So when you next buy a table, a chest of drawers etc ask yourself where it came from.
