Guys+Capris+Italy
 

Im leaving for Italy, Greece, Germany, and Turkey in 4 days and I was packing and I wear guy capris around town at home all the time, and they go a good bit below by knee, you cant see it at all So Im wondering if I can get away with them? If girls can wear capris in the VATICAN so can guys in my opinon... Also since I dont want to carry pants is it true you can buy paper pants at the entrance??

If your knees are covered, your guy capris will meet Vatican dress requirements.

I think I look like a real fool in those male capris, but frankly in southern Italy, and particularly in places like Ischia and even Sardinia, I sometimes felt like I was the only male NOT wearing them.

Yes, there are paper pants for sell by vendors in the piazza. Sometimes tourists that purchased them that are exiting offer their's (for free or cheaper than the vendors)to people needing them.

They sound absolutely decrepit but I bet they look good on you; can you post a link to your photo wearing the Manpris so we can render a fair answer?

Do you wear white tennis shoes and black socks with them? Just jesting...I'm trying to get the whole picture. I agree with the others - as long as they're below the knee, you'll be okay in churches.

You wear capris? Um, where do you live? Not the US, right? You will fit right in in Italy. Also, feel free to bring your neon colored skin tight pants; yellow, orange. Ooooo, baby.

Yeah Im 18 and am graduating from HS this wednesday and Im a guy and I wear Capris and Im in the US and yes I look good in them and thanks for all the help i really appreciate it.

EVERYONE in Europe your age wears them. It's not a problem. You'll "fit right in." Enjoy!

When we were in Italy last September all the young men were wearing them and they looked great. Even my husband liked them.

Everyone should see the vatican, shorts, capris or pants, but catholics should dress as they do each sunday- dignified.

Ive been to Mexico,England,Ireland,Scotland,Wales. Im Roman Catholic since birth. I wear normal everyday clothes to church anyways. Polo shirts and cargo shorts or capris. Thanks for the help

I'm a lot, lot, lot older than JCL, and I too wear normal everyday clothes to church. That does not include capris, but that's simply because I don't own any.

For crying out loud, half the men in NYC under 30 wear "long shorts" or "high wader pants" all summer long. Not to work and not for a night out that doesn't include picking up some ... Anyway, they are not capris. Who ever started that misnomer? They're clam-diggers.

They look like something to wear to the beach, because they ae, and if that's the look you're going for, then go for it.

But what girls wear has nothing to do with it. Girls can get into the Vatican in a dress, too, but, so far, and cassocks notwithstanding, boys don't.

Every time the subject of church dress restrictions in Rome comes up, I want to ask, why do people bother to go at all? (And that goes mostly for people in the 30-60 range, too ,the long-out-of-school crowd who still dress themselves like toddlers or summer campers when there isn't a tent or R-V in a hundred miles.) It's not the Grand Canyon or Disneyland, it's the Vatican Museums and St. Peter's Basilica. That may not sink in until you're there, but I'd sure hate to be standing in paper pants in front of all that excess, the embarassment of riches and absolute genius that is contained there.

Unless the paper pants were to prevent an accident and were under my "real" trousers. Which I hope is a reality far, far away.

Have fun. But remember that while your opinion about what you wear is absolutely valid for you, your opinion doesn't carry any weight at the Vatican. (And neither does mine, come to think of it.)

Covered kness and shoulders are all anyone needs to worry about. Visitng a church as a tourist is pretty far removed from attending a church wedding. Frankly, if he was any better dressed, he'd feel out of place in the tourist melee that is the Vatican.

Was wondering about this one for a while - thinking I had NEVER seen a guy in capris. Then I thought of all the teen/20s boys who wear the long shorts (between knee and ankle) and I thought...."Ah ha!" THAT must be what JCL was talking about! Didn't know they were called "capris!"

I agree you'll fit right in with the long shorts..they have been popular in Europe for at least a couple of years.

Lots of younger men wearing them all over Barcelona two summers ago.

Unfortunately, 19JCL88, your opinion as to what can be worn at the Vatican matters little to those rather butch policemen at the entrance but I am sure they will be favorably impressed by your wardrobe and allow you to proceed.
