Guthrie Castle : Isle of Mull

Has anyone stayed at or visited Guthrie Castle on the Isle of Mull? Or any information would be helpful.

Thank you,

I don't believe it available for the public to stay over except for weddings/wedding parties.

As far as I know it is a wedding venue, not a hotel.

My friend with the last name of Guthrie 'thinks' that they allow all "Guthrie's" to spend the night. Based on your reply I went to the website and suggested that she contact them with her question.

I think there is some confusion here. Guthrie castle is in Angus. Have you got the location wrong or the castle name wrong?

Torosay Castle on Mull is pretty much all the Guthries have as a clan seat, these days. I don't think you cans stay in the castle, but there are two self catering cottages in the grounds

sheila is right -- Mull is very prominent in your title/post -- but somehow I slid right over that and was just focusing on the "Guthrie Castle" bit. The Guthrie Castle I meant was the one near Forfar. sorry . . .

She is actually looking for informtion on all three castles they are Guthrie Castle, Gaige House and Torosay especially Torosay on Mull. Any information would be helpful.

Thank you,

Hi Sheila, what does this mean "Torosay Castle on Mull is pretty much all the Guthries have as a clan seat?"

Thank you,

Well, it's a bit heard to explain. The Clan Chief lives in Italy. The Guthries sold Guthrie Castle in 1984; so no longer the clan seat.

Torosay is a 19th century castle (interestingly designed by the man who did the link at Guthrie Castle) built for a Campbell, but sold to a Guthrie in 1865. He was the great great great uncle of the present laird, and he was the younger son of David Charles Guthrie of Craigie (so not even direct line from the Clan Chief).

Links are therefore all tenuous, but it's the best they have.

As to Gaigie House, I no nuzzing...

I can see it's at Murroes, and I have a friend who lives there, so I can ask him.

I can see it's open to he public in the winter for the snowdrops; and it still seems to be owned by a Guthrie, but it's a private house
