In the US I have recently had Guinness in the nitro can brewed in England,in the nitro bottle brewed in Dublin, and the Extra Stout in a bottle brewed in Canada.

I'm an expat living in N. Ireland, and there really isn't that much difference now between the Guinness you get in Ireland and what you get in the US. There used to be a huge difference. But Guinness spent a gazillion dollars/punts (pre-euro) a few years ago educating American bartenders on a proper pour, and also making sure bars had the correct equipment.

My husband was so happy when he could finally get a decent pint.

Ann, I'm a beer drinker, and I can tell you for a fact that there is a distinct difference. ((b))

Budman . . I keep some Coors in my fridge for friends who don't dring beer.

Don't mean to sound rude - but this is rather a "duh" post. Heineken is better in Amsterdam and Becks is better in Bremen and on and on. What I can't understand is why anyone in Europe would spend money on Bud or worse yet Red Dog.

I have been to many so-called pubs around the Southeast, and although they are okay, I wouldn't describe them as top quality in product or performance. Unfortunately, there are still too many bartenders who do not appreciate the correct pouring technique or are ignorant to it. I sat in my local bar last week and watched the bartender pull a straight pour into a frosted glass and then serve it. That's why I drink the Bass instead. I have even had Guinness served in a mug(Egad!)to my horror. In conclusion, the only time I truly can count on a quality beer is when I visit Ireland.
