We used a great guide in Florence. Her name is Paola and she has a website: www.florencetour.com. She can do walking tours and small group van tours. She took us on a day trip to Montelcino and Pienza.
We also used a company called the Accidental Tourist(www.accidentaltourist.com). A very nice woman named Majla arranged a special evening event for us in a private villa. They also do bike tours and cooking classes.
Both of these people were excellent!

We used www.guidedflorence.com about a month ago and were very pleased, our guide, Sylvia was very well versed in the city: art, history and current idiosyncracies (sp?)and she will arrange a trip according to your guidelines if you have any. Sounds like Florence has a number of reliable guide services that Fodor folks have liked. Just adds to its magic. Enjoy your trip
