Guide/Driver and Low/Moderate Lodging

Four or six middle aged ladies planning trip to Italy for May 2002. Will have 12 days. Can we find one guide/driver for everything? How? If not, can we find guide/drivers for each area? How? And what is best way to travel long distances between areas? Proposed itinerary is Rome - Florence - Cinqueterra - Lakes - Venice - Rome. Please also make recommendations for nice Low-moderate accommodations and restaurants.
Thank you very much.

Hi there!

Are you, by chance from Surry County, North Carolina? What a lovely area!

Here are some resources you might want to look into:

http://www.slowtrav.com/italy/trip_p...nts_guides.htm

And I'm sure there will be other ideas posted here.

Best wishes,

Rex Bickers
Westerville, Ohio
www.rexbickers.italy.com

Jane, My best advice is to limit yourself to no more than 4 destinations in 12 days, especially with a group that size. A private driver with a van will coast you about $400 per day plus the cost of their accommodations. I know a company that can do that but do you want to pay $5 to 6,000 for that service? I suggest that if you start in Rome to train to Florence before you consider using a driver. And, if you are on a budget, then you can easily use the rails for much of your trip. It would take hours to answer your entire question, but I hope this helps.

Jane-I have the name of a car service and they MAY be able to help you- email Andrea at [email protected] and see if he does any guided tours--I know he does a basic car service from Airport to hotel or cruise port--but it certainly wouldn't hurt to see if he has anyone to do a personal tour--I know it will be expensive though--Good luck.

Try contacting Greenline Tours www.greenlinetours.com, I'm going Rome and Venice in August and I'm using them for private services. I told them exactly what I wanted and they came back to me with a price. Since I've booked them for an entire day and evening the prices included lunch and dinner at a local restaurant and pick-up and drop-off at my hotel with our own private guide and driver. They were recommended by my hotel and they are resonable in price.
