Guide Books of England
 

I went to the bookstore today and was amazed at how many guide books there were for England and London. What are some of the best guide books there are for England and London?

One book in a genre of its own is Dorling Kindersley's Eyewitness book of England (London also available.) What make this book unique are the color pictures missing from many other guidebooks. Their WEB site is

Since this book is more pictures than logistics, need to supplement with Fodors, Frommers, Rick Steves, or others that specializes in your travel budget range.

Get Fodor's Exploring Great Britain or London. Great Books....

On our last two trips to Paris we found 'Cadogans' city guides great for walking tours. I realize you are asking about London & England, but this is an English group so I would assume books about their home turf would be excellent. We plan to use Cadogans again this spring on our trip to Prague. All the above guides are also excellent, Steves, Fodors & Frommers. Make a trip to your library and compare.

On preparing for my trip to Britian, I've read EVERY guide book there is in the library, as well as buying 4 of my own. I'd say the best of the bunch is definitely Lonely Planet. They have excellent maps that show where everything is relative to attractions, restaurants, launderettes too. Plus, they do give more detailed information than the other guide books seem to.
