Guest Hous Navona Suites--30% Deposit???

I inquired about staying in one of their suites and found that they have one available. I was told though that they would charge my credit card a 30% deposit. Is this normal? I've never had to leave a deposit when booking at other places. I just want to check with others first before I book this room.

Thanks!

Hi W,

It seems to be normal for them. :)

Many small hotels require a deposit.

Check their cancellation policy. Will you get any of your deposit back?

Hi Ira and thanks for the response!

Yes, I asked about their cancellation policy b/c I couldn't find it on their site. This was their reply:

Cancellation Policy
=====================
No cancellation charges will be charge for any reservation of 1 to 6 nights cancelled prior to 48 hours before arrival. Any cancellations for reservations 7 nights or more received after 5 days before arrival a 2 night charge will be debited to your credit card.

So I'm assuming that means my deposit will be refunded if I have to cancel. The only reason I'm concerned about the deposit is that I'm booking this for June and you never know what can happen from now until then! Hopefully all will go as planned! :)

Thanks!

I believe the reason for the deposit is because they'll say they're a small, family-owned place. But personally I would go with another accomodation that allows one to book a room with a credit card guarantee. That way I get to use my money not the guesthouse.

I've had the first night charged to my credit card in small hotels and guest houses in Ireland.

Hi W,

I wouldn't worry.

Enjoy your visit.

I was also quite interested in this B&B, but the 30% deposit astounded me. It is 30% of the entire amount due (for the reserved number of nights) and it is NOT refundable (I asked this question very specifically). It seems ridiculous that it is not refunded if cancelled within a reasonable timeframe of the reservation, even 60 days out.
