Guess what I found
 

I was looking for flights on orbitz and I found this flight from Atlanta to Berlin leaving from London to Atlanta round trip for $837. I thought that this would be considered two one way tickets which would be so expensive but I decided to try it on orbitz cause sometimes orbitz has the craziest flights. Delta was the best airline for this coming out of Atlanta. I think that's called an open jaw flight. I've never found an affordable flight like that before. These tickets were on the Delta website not just orbitz. I think United might be a good airline for this if you're flying out of an United hub. So if you're planning a crazy Europen vacation give it a try and see what type of flights you come up with.

Also if you can't decide which cities are cheapest to fly into I found that the London was the cheapest to fly into. Paris being 2nd.

I just thought I'd share.

From what I read the other day here, I wouldn't fly with Delta.

I share the concerns expressed by francophile - - I have a lot of cross country travel this spring, and Delta is undercutting the competition by as much as 60-70% - - I have to think that this reflects the doom and gloom hanging over their impending struggles to find a compromise between financially murdering their most important (human) resources - - versus those resources deciding to throw a match into the sea of gasoline... on which their raft of a company is floating.

I know that our country survived the implosion of famous big name airlines before (PanAm, Eastern, TWA), but it feels like this one is really going to be rough.

Wish I felt more conviction in signing off on this posting...

I commented on your other thread. I just booked this itinerary for Good Friday long weekend:

JFK -> FCO
FCO -> CDG
CDG -> AMS
AMS -> JFK

These are all direct flights, and the total was $870.

I'd like to suggest that you check to see if you can price your entire itinerary on Orbitz/Expedia before resorting to the budget airlines. I instinctively think budget airlines these days, but I learned from this experience that booking a complicated itinerary on the big airlines need not be prohibitively expensive. You also benefit from more frequent flights.

For example, FCO -> CDG is code share between Alitalia and Air France and there are flights every hour or two. CDG -> AMS is code share between AF and KLM and it's the same situation.

My flights to FCO and from AMS are also direct. The first is on Alitalia. The second is on KLM.

Before you decide to fly to London and use budget airlines to connect, try pricing the entire itinerary. This may be more expensive, but you can possibly save a lot of time and trouble this way.

Thanks 111op I will check that out. I'm the most indecisive traveler so I still have gotten tickets yet. I will check out orbitz. I guess I should say that one other reason that I'm rolling so much with Delta is because I got a $50 non transferable voucher. I'm going to still check out orbitz because flying with regular airlines would be nicer than easyjet and my air whom I had never even heard of.But I'll still price it on orbitz cause $879 to fly into Rome is great! I found Rome to be one of the more expensive airports to fly into.


and to rex and francophile I understand what you're saying about the financial troubles of Delta but flying out of Atlanta with Delta just makes sense to me because Atlanta is a Delta hub. If I lived in Texas I'd probably use Continental or American more. If I lived in Minneapolis I'd rave about Northwest. And so on with other cities.

I'm more worried about my airline miles than anything. But right now I still like Delta. Airlines are so much alike anyways. But I will say Continental is a little better than the rest.
