GTG IN ROME? Will be in Rome May 26-30, 2008.
Anyone else who is going to be in Rome who would like to get together for a glass of wine and share vacation stories during this time? I have been inspired by the thread asking how people meet other fordorites. Since I don't have my pin I thought I would see if anyone else would like to meet up in Rome at this time. Any takers?
|
Anybody? Surely some of you will be in Rome and would like to get together at the end of May.
|
I wish I was and I would most certainly meet you !
Hope others post and do meet you.. there is a common bond with travelers... :) |
I wish you could be there too frugaltraveler. Maybe another place at another time if we are lucky. I hope others would like to meet up in Rome too as I would love to put some faces to some of these names and share travel experiences.

This has fallen to #98. I will top it one more time to see if anyone is interested. Happy travels everyone.

Topping for jdraper.
Have a wonderful time in Rome jdraper, I wish I could be in Rome and meet you for some wine! |
jdraper,
you have a great time in Rome, I don't think it is possible not to. Is this your first time ? and could we please hear about the trip on your return ? |
Thank you for the good wishes. I wish you guys could be there too.
frugal: Yes, this is the first time to Rome although we have been to Italy two times before, Venice, Florence Lucca, Verono, etc. We are very much looking forward to this trip as we will be in Naples for four days, two days in Florence then end the trip with the last six days in Rome. This is our 30th anniversary trip and we are taking the Cavalier with us again as she did so good in Germany. J |
jdraper - I too wish I would be in Rome at that time. But don't worry about topping this thread too much. Just do it about every three days or so. As your trip gets closer you will more than likely get some interest.
I have done this for all my trips and have been to GTG's in both Rome and Florence. Tom |
Hi jdraper, congrates on anniv. and your trip. I will be in Rome from May 18th thru May 24th, then down to Praino for 9 days. Just going to miss you .. Hope you have a great time.

Topping for jdraper.
I am going to Rome, but I miss you by a week. I'll be there May 13-19, broken up by two days in Florence. I'm a solo traveler, so a GTG for drinks or dinner sounds like fun. I hope you have a splendid time in Rome. It is one of my favorite cities. |
So far we seem to be missing everyone by a day or two on either end. Still hoping to get together if anyone will be in Rome during this time though.
We thought for a while that we were going to have to cancel this trip as DH's job came to an end but he quickly found another and we still get the time to go on this trip. What a great relief to us as we are so looking forward to this trip. Hope to meet anyone who might be there at the same time for dinner, drinks or whatever. Jackie |
Jackie; we will be in Rome at the beginning of May.

Jackie -- have you tried slowtrav.com? They have a trip calender and a GTG Forum. You do have to register.
At the homepage, go to the Community tab, then at the bottom is the calender. Sign in, then it will connect you to the GTG forum. I'm going to try this, since as a solo traveler, dinner out with other people sounds like a lot of fun. Good Luck! ~Myra |
Mebe: No, I haven't tried slowtrav.com. I was hoping to get together with fodorites as I have been coming to this forum for years and hoped to put a face to a name or two I just might check it out though, thank you. J

I understand -- I've been around off and on for three years. I'd love to see and chat with other Fodorites.
Enjoy your trip :) ~Myra |
My daughter is going to Italy with a few friends in a few days. It has been awhile since either of us has been to Italy. What are the rules for bringing back wine. How many bottles can she bring back. SHe only wants to bring back about 4. What is the best way to transport now since there is a 3 oz liquid limit on carryons? Thanks for any help.

Topping for an answer to happycatt's questions on bringing wine back from Italy. I'm sorry I don't have an answer for you happycatt. While we consume gallons of the good stuff while we are travelling there is never any left to bring home with us. Anyone with an answer for happycatt?

Happycatt-if your daughter is under the age of 21 then she could lose the bottles at US customs. Most of the customs people have told us that 2-4 bottles are what they allow without paying any duty on them. Most of the duty is about 40-60 cents a bottle though.
Personally, its a hassle carrying wine in your suitcase(it MUST be checked). Two wine bottles usually weigh about 7 pounds so do the math. |
