Group meal in Barcelona
 

We're looking for restaurant recommendations for our group of 5 couples in mid September. Traditional Catalonian fare would be preferred, no vegetarians in our group and an atmospheric restaurant would be nice, not modern.

We have a budget of c€60 per head, incl wine. We have thought of the following:

4Cats
Quo Vadis
Los Caracoles
El Gran Cafe
Egypte

but would be delighted to receive recommendations from the knowledge banks of the Fodor's community. Thanks in advance.

I've hiked/walked past that restaurant several times. The view is stunning, and I plan to sample the food next month.
It is a bit of an event to get there (suburban train from Pl. Catalunya, then funicular uphill), but no hassle or rocket science.

You might be interested in Restaurant Windsor (www.restaurantwindsor.com), Carrer de Còrsega, 286. They offer private and semi-private dining and should be in your price range.

It's a mix between Catalan and French cuisine.

My wife's company has an event every year in Barcelona. We had previously eaten there twice, and she recommended the restaurant for a large group of people.

They all raved about the food, the decor, the service. They plan to go back there this year.

We've had a look at all the suggestions, and nearly settled on Can Marti. (Thanks Cowboy1968--I'll try that when we're not with a group) Unfortunately they don't do fish and some of our group don't eat red meat. It was also felt that it was just a bit too out of the City.

Can anyone help with any other suggestions. Not fancy food piled up in a tower, just good Spanish/Catalonian food within our budget?

I like Can Culleretes, Barcelonas oldest and Spain's second oldest restaurant (from 1786). Traditional and affordable Catalan food, wonderful ladies running the place and serving. The best atmosphere and also very popular with locals. Very central, in a narrow street just off Las Ramblas.

kimhe...thanks for the recommendation. Do you know if all members of the group have to eat off the same menu or if we can mix and match? They don't seem to show an a la carte version, do you remember if they have one?

They for sure have an a la carta version with some 40 options, I've used to go for this. The menus should be easy to mix and match, at least when a minimum of two do the same menu.
