Grossglockner Road from Mittenwald

Hello!

Our initial plan was to drive the Grossglockner Road from Mittenwald via Bruck until Heiligenblut, where we will stay overnight. Then the next day we want to continue to Hallstatt. Will we miss a lot if we don't go all the way to Lienz, because as I understand it, the Grossglockner Drive is from Bruck -> Lienz.?

The other option is to go Mittenwald --> Lienz --> Heiligenblut --> Bruck, and then overnight at Zell Am See. Next day we would continue on to Hallstatt. This route is a bit longer than the above one.

Any advice? Thanks.

The part Lienz to Heiligenblut or vice versa is nothing special. The problem with your route is, however, that you have to go back over Grossglockner road again the next day - and pay again for the same scenery :(

Which is the reason why I'd say do drive first via Lienz (through Felbertauern tunnel, which also costs, but a smaller toll) to Heiligenblut, where you should stay overnight (nicer/more impressive scenery than Bruck), so you have the full next day for the Grossglockner road experience.

Thanks for your input, Ingo.

IF we do backtrack, I read somewhere that when you show your ticket from the previous day, the cost will only be about €10?

Correct, but it's 11 Euro in the meantime :-)

Still, it's backtracking, you will see the same scenery twice.

Thanks again, Ingo. Appreciate it.

I think we won't backtrack and enter from the south end of the Grossglockner.
