grossglockner
Hello, I was wondering if the Grossglockner ever opens up before May? I will be going to that area in the last part of April...and I have heard that the snow level has been low this year. Thanks in advance! Tammy

Hard to tell, snow levels are indeed low.
Check this page and you'll be the first to know. http://www.grossglockner.at/ |
Thanks logos999!! :0)

Gone, are you planning on entering the drive from the south? I am going in June and plan to drive up to the Grossglockner peak from Zell am See and then return the same direction. The drive down to Lienz seems very far out of the way.

InMiami,
I go again in June as well and anything to do with Grossglockner is just out of this world. Great place and great time. Good luck! Let me now if you want any pictures from last year when there was a ton of snow on the Hochalpenstrasse road in June. G |
Garnetlake, we will be driving down from Zell am See, should we go all the way to Heiligenblut before turning around and returning north? I don't want to drive all the way south to Lienz because my final destination is Salzburg.
|
Absolutely, that is one of the most scenic places on the whole route. Heilingblut is a tourist trap but a more beautiful place you have never seen. How much time do you have? I will check my maps with my son and get back to you. Meanwhile I will post some pictures of what you can expect on the pass road for you. You can make a good loop

Garnetlake, we are picking up our car in Vienna on June 16 and tour the Danube, spending the night in Enns.
On June 17 we are driving on to Hallstatt and spending the night. On june 18 tour the Grossglockner and eventually spend the night in Salzburg. June 19 tour Salzburg and spend the night. June 20 drive to Linz to drop off our car and catch the mini-bus to Cesky Krumlov. As you can see we are trying to get a taste of Austria in a short time |
