Gross Glockner Pass?

I have seen referenced driving over the Gloss Glocker Pass as a thing to do at about 8,000'. However, I can't seem to locate it on my map. Where abouts is it in relation to Salzburg and Innsbruck?

I'm not sure, but I think it's south/southwest of Salzburg, near Italy.

Liv: You will find very good information at
www.grossglockner.at
Just click where it says "Beinnen Sie Ihre Tour" and then click the English version. Very informative.

South/southwest of Salzburg. A great drive that I very much recommend.

One of my childhood memories is crossing the Grossglockner Pass. It was so foggy that my parents decided to stay overnight rather than risk driving on in the night. We rented a "room" in somebody's semi-detached laundry room.
However, later I've also seen teh pass in sunshine and it was definitely worth it!

We stayed many years ago at the foot of the Gross Glockner Range in Heiligenblut, close to Lienz. It was a quiet nice place and the road up from there was interesting. Properly on the way from Salzburg to Innsbruck there is another remarkable sight which is Krimml Waterfall.

Thanks from Liv: I think I see it on my map, about 45 miles S of Salzburg, and 20 miles SW of Badgastein, A. This may be a too far out of our way as we travel from Salzburg to Innsbruck. Perhaps there are similar sights if we travel the southwest Austrian highway from Salzburg through Bad Reichenhall, Waidring, St. Johann and Worgl, and onward to Innsbruck. The alternative is the main German highway west from Salzburg to Raubling, and south to Innsbruck.
Livingston (Liv)

I think the experience is worth getting up very early in the morning so you can make the drive.
We detoured over the Brenner Pass from Innsbruck and drove through a section of Italy before turning north over the Gross Glockner highway.
I do not recommend that route if you are tight on time. The Gross Glockner, however, is one of the great alpine drives of Europe. I urge you to tinker with your schedule so you can fit it in.
