grocery stores
Would anyone recommend grocery stores (preferably large ones) with easy transport from 8th district Elysée. Thanks a lot.

Hi M,
Look up "Monoprix" and "supermarchés" under Paris 75008 at www.pagesjaunes.fr ((I)) |
and also Franprix...
|
Here's a web site that has a little bit of everything related to shopping, including direct web links. Monoprix is listed.
At the bottom of the paris link is a link for grocery stores, and more. http://www.discoverfrance.net/ |
"The" Parisian supermarket chain is Franprix. It is everywhere in Paris and the suburbs but nowhere else in France. In recent years Monoprix (somewhat more expensive) has tried, quite successfully, to capture the yuppies in town by extending their hours to 10 p.m. in most locations (open until midnight on the Champs Elysées and open from 7 a.m. at Gare du Nord RER station, for those who need even greater flexibility).
G20, Casino, Atac, Champion are other supermarket chains that you can find in Paris. There is also the low cost ED where you must bring your own bag or pay 3 cents for one at checkout. Within the next year or so, for ecological reasons, free bags will be a thing of the past in France, as is already the case in several other European countries. |
If you want a really big supermarket, you could also take metro line 1 out to La Défense, where there is an Auchan hypermarket in Les 4 Temps shopping centre. Otherwise, for daily groceries, Franprix is fine, and cheaper than Monoprix (but Monoprix has a better choice of goods, especially luxury/foreign foods, wine, etc.).
Incidentally, Franprix, Monoprix and Casino are all owned by the same company (Casino group). |
