grocery shopping
I'm traveling to Paris in September and I have rented an apartment in the Marais for 12 days. I would like to prepare some of our meals to cut down on cost. Is there a grocery store nearby and what basic items should I purchase? Does anyone have any godd and simple recipes?

you will get more responses if you change your title to grocery stores in Paris.
good luck |
The Marais has both Franprix and Monoprix supermarkets -- you will find excellent products in both of them, but you will pay slightly more at Monoprix.

Hi
I knocked this up in Santorini so I called it "Penne Santorini". You will need 1. One large tin of good quality tuna IN OLIVE OIL. 2. One bottle of tomato puree. 3. One onion 4. Knob of butter. 5. One packet of macaroni (penne) METHOD Open can of tuna. Drain oil into cooking pan, add butter, heat then add your onions to brown. Add tomato puree. Add salt to taste. Bring to boil then simmer for 40 minutes. Add tuna and simmer for another 10 minutes. Spoon onto your pasta. Have with some bread, olives, cheese and of course that fabulous French red wine. Now your in heaven! |
There's a food market every Sunday morning at the Bastille (Blvde Richard Lenoir).
There's a Monoprix on Rue St Antoine about 300 m west of the Place de la Bastille - the food section is on the lower ground floor. The escalator is at the back of the store; - you must pass through the cosmetics section to reach it. |
I have been to both the Franprix and Monoprix, both of which had great selection in the Marais.

Thanks to all of you...

I enjoy a kitchen but don't actually "cook" much in it. Rather for your grocery list I suggest: plain yogurt with fresh fruit to go on it, pasta (to serve hot or use as base for pasta salad), several types of cheese, meats like ham or salami, vegetables to steam, potatoes (again serve hot or cold), greens for salads, canned tuna.
