Grocery hours in Paris?
Ok, here's a stupid question -- what time do grocery stores close on Saturdays in Paris? Is it 17.00? Or later?
I'm planning to arrive by train from Garmisch-Partenkirchen at around 16.30 (this will be in Sep). I'll need to buy some groceries for my apartment (1st Arr). I plan to just put my suitcase in a locker, buy groceries, then go to the apartment. I'll return to the station later to get my suitcase. So, should I take an earlier train, or will it be easy to find a grocery store for the basics until around 18.00? Thanks for any help! s |
someone will be able to answer better then I but I can share my own experience. We were in Paris for 10 nights over the Christmas holiday and I was able to find little corner stores opened until very late. Even on Christmas Day. There were several within a few blocks in the 5th on Rue Des Ecoles in the 5th.. I stayed in the 1rst on our first trip but we were in a hotel and I never looked for a grocery type store.
Someone here I am sure can tell you exactly where to find one! Try emailing the apartment as well. |
The small convenience stores tend to stay open late; I've seen them open until 11:00 or 12:00 (midnight). There's at least one Monoprix in the 1st that's open until 8:00.

Monoprix closes anywhere between 21:45 and 22:30 (midnight for the Champs Elysées store).
Franprix is generally open until 20:30. Those are the two main chains in Paris. Any other supermarket will be open until 19:30 at the very minimum. After that, you have the little neighborhood grocery stores open just about any time. (In my neighborhood, there are grocery stores open until 04:00.) |
I would go right to the apartment with your luggage and then go out to get groceries. I'm sure there are plenty of stores to buy the basics.
If you post the address of the apartment someone here will be able to tell you exactly where the closest store is. It's amazing what people on this board know! |
Well, you people **could not** be more helpful!! Wow, that's great!!
I just looked for Monoprix in the 1st at google maps, and there's one right at my metro. Wow. Thank you TONS! s |
Hi S,
Monoprix are open late. Look them up at www.pagesjaunes.fr Also see http://www.french-at-a-touch.com/Fra...e_shopping.htm Enjoy your visit. ((I)) |
Yup!
I looked 'em up at monoprix.fr, found the exact store and the exact hours. It will be so easy; now no worries thanks to y'all! Yes, I can just go right to the apartment and get the groceries later as adrienne suggests. No need to backtrack. Neat site, ira! (Stores here in GaP close between 17.00 & 18.00, so this is good news!) Thanks again! s |
