Grenada worth it?

My daughter will be working in Madrid, Spain from this fall onward. She intends to travel as much as possible at weekends and has already booked several short trips to Europe i.e London, Paris. I would like to pay for her to visit somewhere in Spain for the weekend. Is Greneda worth it? Is there more to see there than just the castle and if so how long would she need there?

Just the Castle? The Alhambra is worth the visit even if there were nothing else.

Granada is a good city for a night or two. The Alhambra is amazing, more than just a castle, but a whole complex of palaces, gardens, fortress, etc. However, for Spanish cities I prefer Seville, which is one of my favorite European cities. Very pretty and exotic, and is home to the Alcazar which (in my opinion) is just as beautiful as the Alhambra.

Thank you so much for your help. I will book her a couple of nights in Graneda. Is the train the best way to travel there from Madrid?

Definitely! the Alhambra is gorgeous and Granada an important city. Not only can you see the stuff in town but also the Sierras around it are quite beautiful. The train to Madrid (there is no high speed train) goes through the sierra part of its journey, its a bit long a trip. You could take the high speed train to Seville and transfer to a different train from there but you wont save much time (or money) doing that.
