Gremlins at Fodors?

I have been getting the following message each time I try to search for United Kingdom topics on the Europe Forum
"Europe
Topic(s) - Wyoming
Sorry -- we couldn't find anything that fit your search. Please change your criteria and try again "
Well of course my 'topic' can't be found!! But I AM NOT typing " Wyoming" in the search box. Anyone else experiencing gremlins at work?
Yeah, can't look up my interest: Hilton hotel Kensington, London, UK. The search function must be down..

The US board is having a similar problem except that all searches there produce threads on Alabama.

I had a similar glitch yesterday, scrolling back - - after about 11 pages, it suddenly jumoed to "page two" of the Asia forum.

There is a bug in their database (perhaps related to the indexing "holes") - - and it is not an enviable job to try to find and fix something like this.

All we can do is "bear with"...

Best wishes,

Rex
I tried to search for Turkey and got a message that they couldn't find anything that fit my search for Lesotho!

Bob Brown Nov 19th, 2002 10:26 AM

I just did a search and the responses seemed appropriate for my key word.
Perhaps the B-Tree, or what ever Fodors uses, that indexes key terms was rebuilt in the interim.
It is 2:26 PM on my clock, on Nov 19
.
Rex Nov 19th, 2002 10:28 AM

Well, the indexing itself is certainly not updated. Stuck at November 11.

I think that the "gremlin" is something very hard to find; hard even to reproduce.
Nope not fixed yet, Bob ... I am still in Wyoming at 2:31 US EST.

Bob Brown Nov 19th, 2002 11:23 AM

I just did a search on the keyword Paris, and the most recent response was about 2:15 PM on 11/19. That is today, Tuesday, the nineteenth of November, right?
So I concluded that indexing was resonably up to date. If postings from today are included in the indexing tree, I don't see the problem.

It is not right up to the second, or even the minute, but it up to date on the day, even the afternoon of today.

Also, I plugged in London, and also got responses that had 11/19/2002 for a date and 2:41 PM for a time.

I do not know how thorough the index is for any subject. But I am not going to waste any more time on what seems to be a non problem.
Too bad that a France search yiedls Albania...god I hope not!

jahoulih Nov 19th, 2002 11:29 AM

The problem with the search function, if I understand correctly, is that it won't retrieve any threads that were started after 11/11. It will retrieve threads that were started before then but added to more recently, even as recently as today.

exactly. Search for Corleone.
Try searching on Albania -- you'll find France there :) I just did and did ...

I am laughing out loud here!!
