Greenland - To go or not to go?

I am going to Iceland in April. I would also like to visit Greenland. However, I most tour operators do not have tours in April or there are very very expensive, since I will be travelling by myself. Is Kulusuuk a good day trip from Reykjavik in April? Is Greenland worth going to? The cost of this day trip is about USD1000. What advise can fodorites provide? Thanks.

In April the weather could be miserably cold...

From what I gleaned using www.weatherbase.com, the average temps are in the 20s. Personally I would not spend $1000 USD on a one-day trip at a time of year when the temps were so cold and could be (fluke) prohibitively cold.

I served a nine-months tour of duty on Greenland back when I was in the military. For scenery, it is like the Alps...only flooded. There are no roads. Only way to get around is by boat when the ice is out. There are no trees, only bushes in spots that are no higher than your knees. In summer, mosquitoes and gnats are fierce. Billions of them. Would you enjoy going there? I very much doubt it.

I found Greenland to be beautiful and fascinating...but I went in July and for a three or four day trip. I would think that a daytrip really wouldn't be in your best interest, unless you have more time and like the cold. (Plus, of course, there is so much to see and do in Iceland itself!)

By the way, here's an old but lengthy thread on Iceland that doesn't come up in the searches; be sure to add your favorites when you return! :-)

We went on a day tour to Kulusuk, Greenland many years ago. We flew Iceland Air.

They still have this trip,at $438/pp, but not in April.
